SUMMARY:Snowshoeing at Wascana Habitat Conservation Area
DESCRIPTION:A fresh dump of snow means it’s time to don those snowshoes! Snowshoeing is a great winter skill that allows one to access a wide variety outdoor environments with deep snowcover. \nJoin your Great Plains Section buds on Sunday 1 December from 2 to 4 pm at the Habitat Conservation Area in Wascana Park for an afternoon of snowshoeing. No experience is necessary\, and all ages are welcome. Participants should be comfortable walking a distance of 3 km and need to be prepared to walk through some deep snow. Dress for the temperatures\, and be prepared for wind exposure next to Wascana Lake. Email Jennifer at j_l_arends@yahoo.ca with any questions about what to wear or bring. Participants must be members in good standing of the Great Plains Section\, and participation is free (unless renting snowshoes). \nGear \n\nBring your own snowshoes\, or rent a pair through the Club courtesy of our friends at Fresh Air Experience for $10.\nPoles optional (make sure they have snow baskets).\nWarm winter boots and warm wool socks.\nSnow pants or a water-resistant shell with insulating layer.\nGaiters optional\, or snow pants with snow “cuff.”\nWarm winter jacket.\nToque\, warm mitts\, scarf or neck warmer.\nHand and toe warmers optional.\nLight backpack with snacks\, hot chocolate\, sunglasses\, and anything else you need to be outdoors in the cold.\n\nWe’ll depart the parking lot on MacDonald Street (across from Douglas Park Ball Diamonds)\, close to Wascana Hill\, at 2 pm. \n \nRegister by 30 November at j_l_arends@yahoo.ca\, indicating whether you want to rent snowshoes.
